Balance
Contrast fascinates me. Rough and clean, old and new, organic and structured, dark and light, masculine and feminine.
Despite the inherent tension, it all lives at the same time. One extreme serves to highlight its supposed opposite. But the truth is, we cannot have one without the other. What could be interpreted as opposite, or other than, is merely the flip side of the same coin.
As an artist I am constantly working with balance. My work is clean and spare, geometrically inspired. Some might see these elements as masculine. For me, the masculinity of some of my pieces serves to highlight the femininity of the wearer. Somewhere in the middle, there is an interplay where both aspects get to come out and play.
Life is infinitely more interesting in those in-between places. And I’m very lucky that I get to explore these themes in both my work and personal life.
I’d love to hear from you – where do you find or struggle with balance? Where do you notice the contrast? What helps you see the range in between the extremes?
We ourselves embody contrasting elements to one degree or another. We all have both masculine and feminine qualities. Things become very interesting when we make room for all the shades of grey or rather, the colors of the rainbow. Making room for in between the extremes can sometimes make it hard to find one’s own equilibrium. Perhaps not all parts being equal, but letting them each carry their own weight is what defines our own unique perspective and expression. With my own work, my hope is for it to convey a sense of harmony and peace by including a calming experience.
