Catch A Wave
In the midst of winter this year, I took a sojourn down to La Jolla for a change of pace and scenery.
Falling asleep and waking to the sounds of the surf crashing against the shore was such a contrast to the passing train cars I usually hear from my window at home. Watching the sun dip into the blue every evening from a balcony overlooking the Pacific. Waves rippling and glistening in the golden sunlight. Wind moving across the water. Reflections shimmering on the surface as surfers catch wave after wave past the rocks.
I was taken by the view and dynamic energy of it all. As it turns out, I was in good company. In both La Jolla and San Diego I enjoyed so many artistic interpretations of this breathtaking coastal environment and its mesmerizing power.
I’ve been keeping these memories alive at my bench, where I conjure them as inspiration for a series of new work. Playing with the materials I had on hand, I’ve been experimenting with proportions and pairings.
I call this necklace, La Jolla Wave #1. With golden waves fabricated in brushed and high polished brass, and matte black onyx beads for the rocky shorelines, I’m loving how this piece takes me right back to a beautiful place and time.
And while I made this one just for me, I’m more than happy to share! If you want to catch your own, inquire to acquire a one-of-a-kind La Jolla wave in gold, silver, or brass that I’ll make just for you.
xoxo
