The Magic of Life Over 50

“Whether you are well into your 50s or past them, or still decades from what we call middle age, the time is always right to design a life worth celebrating and a personal style to match.”

-Claudia Ender

There was an unexpected shift that happened in my life after I turned 50. For years popular culture would have us believe that meeting middle age meant a crisis, the loss of youth, the slow decline towards our final act. But while that makes for dramatic movie narratives and drove the sales of millions of self-help books, I found something else entirely. Something more substantive than loss, though I’ve had my fair share. I found something more in me.

The shift I experienced was not grasping for time gone by, but the relief of no longer being driven by competition and ambition. In its place I found a deeper need for more compassion and connection – both for and within myself and my community. I now carry more of a commitment to deepen my relationships and my life experiences, with far less interest in checking the boxes of what a “successful life” should be. The essence, I have found, is that there is more magic to discover in what is right in front of me and, yes, in some faraway lands that I still dream to visit one day. Most relieving, there is more freedom from caring if I fit in, and instead, a liberation to embody who I truly am as I reevaluate my priorities for this next chapter of my life.

Reflected in all of this is the confidence to own my own personal style, to embrace my definition of beauty and adornment in ways that lift me up, and make my inner shine more evident to the outside world. But the beauty of these discoveries is that you never have to wait to discover yourself.

So whether you find your style changing entirely, or the enthusiasm to embrace bold statement pieces, or wear more color, trust me when I tell you that you will not regret staying true to what brings more of you to the fore.

xoxo
