The Rainbow Connection

What is it about a rainbow that stops us dead in our tracks? Is it the sheer wonder of seeing something so ephemeral? Is it the very scientific collision of light and dark and atmosphere that produces something so magical?

A couple of months ago, there was a massive rainbow arching across the Los Angeles sky that had everyone I know talking. It filled up everyone’s Instagrams. We were all reduced to gleeful children under its splendor. I am always intrigued by contrast, and in this case, how the sky could yield from dark, cloudy, and foreboding, to the rays of the sun. In that space between the two, where water droplets passed, something magnificent was created. From the dark and the light came a spray of nearly unbelievable color.

Normally one to work in a palette of mostly greys, black, white and precious metals, I’ve been playing more with colored gemstones and paying attention to how they reliably lift my spirits. It’s my way of bringing more rainbows to my clients, friends, and family. And as I’ve pushed myself out of my usual habits, I realized incredible growth is possible when I embrace the entire spectrum.

What makes you stop in wonder and awe? I’d love to hear how you take time to appreciate those fleeting moments that mark our lives with magic.
