Winter is Coming
Onset of winter and the ever changing seasons remind us we are always in transformation. A constant state of change. Reflecting on this notion creates awareness allows us to make choices about how we view our history and who we want to be in the present.
If we lived somewhere other than Los Angeles we may be blanketed by snow about now. Though mild for us Southern Californians, we are still experiencing the shift in the temperature and the earlier onset of darkness. It makes us want to curl up in front of our fireplace, even if it is only a projected video onto a screen. Out come the blankets in our drafty loft. Time to curl up and cocoon. December days will soon bring us to the winter solstice, where the darkness will start to wane and the days will get longer. As the world keeps spinning, light will again prevail.
“Transformation doesn’t take place with a vacuum; instead, it occurs when we are indirectly and directly connected to all those around us.” –Byron Pulsifer
Recently, I was given another opportunity to create a ceremony for a lovely lady who was celebrating her own transformation or rebirth. I repurposed the diamonds of her former wedding ring into a new design and created a guided visualization and intention ceremony.
By creating a ring from the stones of her previous wedding ring, we honored her late husband. By selecting stones of different shapes for the new ring, we symbolized her transformation and transition, giving herself permission to accept and follow a new path. One that has given her many gifts despite her loss. We also created a mantra for living with intention. What was once darkness is now light.
“Transformation is an ongoing process that tends to appear ordinary, when, in fact, something extraordinary is taking place.” –Suzy Ross
Sometimes it is important to create a ritual in acknowledgement of life and the good things that are part of it. In doing this, we honor our own lives and the world around us.
