When Going Remote Is Personal

I’ve worked remotely with some of my clients for many years, so when the pandemic hit I was already comfortable working virtually with the creative process.

I just delivered my latest client project to an architect in Arizona who wanted to create a stunning custom gift for his wife’s birthday. He also used to create jewelry himself, so he had collected a few stones. We worked remotely to review images of them and settled on a pair of matching 5mm blue zircons, which he decided to turn into earrings set in white gold.

Unlike cubic zirconia, which is a man made synthetic stone, blue zircon is a naturally occurring mineral found in the Earth’s crust and the most valuable color in the zircon family. Before World War II, blue zircons were widely available but have since become quite rare, especially as larger crystals.

I sent him sketches and mockups of various styles, design options, and bezel sizes. Once he chose the design that resonated most with him, we continued to talk back and forth throughout the 4 - 6 week process to make sure the earrings turned out just as beautifully as he envisioned. Happy Birthday, Deborah!

Customizing jewelry is such a personal process which is why I maintain continual dialog with my clients as we distill all of the ideas into the design that embodies the intention, expression or vision for the piece.

Over time I’ve cultivated the CED custom process to be what it is today – an ongoing collaborative conversation that gets us from a dream to a meaningful, powerful piece.

If you’re considering creating something special for you or someone you love, have a look through my custom process. I’d love to work with you!
